Gastrointestinal Health

“A person whose basic emotional and physical tendencies are in balance,

Whose digestive power is balanced,

Whose bodily tissue, elimination functions and activities are in balance,

And whose mind, senses and souls are filled with vitality, That person is said to be healthy”

Sushruta Samhita, 2000 B.C.

There is an important relationship between gastrointestinal physiology, diet and health. Our gastrointestinal tract not only digests food and rids the body of  waste, it also plays a role in determining our health. It helps to determine immune function and hormonal activity. It influences neurological functions as well as alters susceptibility to chronic illnesses.

Gastrointestinal health requires a dynamic balance between digestion, absorption, intestinal barrier and gut microbes. Restoring normal digestive function not only relieves symptoms, but often results in widespread improvement in health and decreased disease burden. Proper digestion and healthy diet are key to life filled with vibrant health.
